Summer of Color Week One!

Wow its amazing how life can really get in the way, I haven't posted in a very long time.  I haven't done much art either.  After dealing with a lot of issues last year I have decided to get back on my art horse and start doing something I love, for myself, again.  What better way to push me to start then to join in on Kristin's Summer of Color! The first week's colors are turquoise and citron so I started out by painting paper using these colors and some stamps.
The citron kind of looks yellow on my computer when I scanned it in but it still looks cool :)

I have some friends who wanted a series of four cupcakes for their home so I decided to use the color prompts as the colors for each painting so here is the first cupcake I completed for them using some of the paper I had painted.

I'm still new and trying to stumble around, figuring out, how to do mixed media.  Layers kill me.  I have an inner struggle when it comes to covering things up and I am trying to practice and get better with it.  I feel like there is still something missing from this but I don't know what.  Overall though I am pretty pleased with it :)

On another note the very talented Ady is having a giveaway for her latest workshop Dreamy Faces 2!
She is offering a giveway you just have to check out her facebook page! And while you are there definitely checkout all her works, she does such an amazing job!

I will be back next week with my next cupcake :)

  7. Hi Kristin, so happy to see your blog! I have a 24yrold daughter named Kristin and spelled the same way too. She has been an artist since the age of 2 and is still on her journey in life. Your profile description sounded just like hers so I had to say hello and wish you luck on your journey and to never give up. She has gotten back up on the horse many times and is so amazing and full of life. This SOC will be a good place for you to start.

Ok, now about this art of yours... I'm the same way about layers, after almost two years of finally giving in to my need to paint and create it's still a struggle. Once I love the background I can't see why I should cover it up, sometimes I just leave it and other times I keep adding layers. Still a work in process in this issue.

WOW, love love both your paintings. The colors are great and the background is yummy. Great job on that cupcake, I love the darker blue against the background. Looking forward to seeing the other two cupcakes. Enjoy the class!! Sorry for writing a book, couldn't help myself!
